- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons flour 2 cups beef/chicken stock (natural or 3 cubes belly in 2 cups boiled water)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup heavy cooking cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons Worcester sauce (see recipe below if not available)
Instructions for cooking Swedish meatballs
- You will mix all the ingredients for the meatballs and form them into medium or small balls, place in a frying pan or saucepan over medium heat with 1 tablespoon butter and stir all sides until cooked (5-7 minutes per side)
- Sauce: same skillet, medium heat. Melt the butter and stir in the flour until golden brown. Slowly add the beef stock and bring to a boil until thick, then add the milk, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, salt and any other powder and mustard. Keep stirring until everything is evenly mixed. Return the meatballs to the skillet, turning occasionally to ensure they are well covered.
- Serve warm with white rice
- If you don't have Worcestershire sauce, you can make one as shown below and save the rest for future use :)
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 2 tbsp. soy sauce (preferably low sodium) 2 tbsp. water 1 tbsp. 4 tsp garlic powder 1/8 tsp cinnamon powder 1/8 tsp black pepper Add all the above ingredients to a saucepan and mix well, stirring constantly, until cooked. Once boiling, remove from heat and allow to cool completely before using.
